Surgical Video – Ovarian Torsion with Mass

This patient presented with severe right lower quadarant pain and an ovarian mass was seen on ultrasound.  This video shows the huge necrotic torsed ovary that was found at laparoscopy.

Sorry to comment/ask a question on such an old post. But I have to ask…

If a woman is in say a scale of 8 out of 10 for ovarian pain with a history of cysts, should she wait until her period to get an ultrasound? It sounds odd to me. I would think a doc would want to see what’s going on in the prime moment of pain rather than wait until it’s subsided.

Its hard to answer in general. Each case is different. If one thought that pain was related to physiologic cysts of ovulation, then timing the ultrasound would have some value. It one was more concerned about an actual ovarian mass or neoplasm, then its not going to matter where one is in the month. I have an ultrasound in my office and typically scan people right away.
